Celebrations
Celebrations are always fun for the children and we will be planning many celebrations throughout the year. Each classroom will plan celebrations for holidays, and teachers may plan celebrations as a part of the theme that the class is working on as well. Parents may be asked to contribute treats or other items for class parties, although at the current time parents are not permitted in the building to attend celebrations with your child's class. For your convenience, we will always give parents plenty of advance notice about upcoming holiday parties and celebrations so that you can sign up to help out. During holiday parties and classroom celebrations all students (AM and full day students) are invited to participate, regardless of whether the celebration is scheduled during your child's usual school day or time.
Birthdays are also special days for your child. When it is your child’s birthday, you are welcome to send in a special treat for your child to share with the class at snack time. We ask that you avoid sending in any treats that may contain nuts, as some children are allergic and some children have not been exposed to nuts and may end up having an allergic reaction that has not yet been identified. Although we know that your child’s birthday is a special day, we ask that you refrain from using the school day as an opportunity to throw a birthday party for your child. Having a special snack, a birthday crown from the teacher, and a prize from the birthday box is sufficient for celebrating your child’s birthday in school. Birthday parties should be planned for after school hours. The preschool setting is not a place where we want families to start competing with each other to “outdo” each others’ birthday celebrations. Parents are welcome to send in birthday party invitations to pass out to the students in your child’s class, but only if you are planning to invite all of the students in the class. The classroom is not a place where we encourage students to play favorites or exclude any of our friends. Invitations that you plan to send to only select students must be distributed outside of school.
