Medication Policy
Forest Hill Nature Preschool abides by the Maryland State regulations for dispensing medicine. By policy, any medications that are given to children including over-the-counter and prescription medications MUST be approved by your child’s doctor in writing before we can give the medicine to your child at school. A Medication Authorization Form must be completed to be kept on file at the school, and any medications that you bring to school must be hand delivered by the parent to Miss Lavonne or Miss Melissa in person at drop off.
Prescription medications are authorized in writing by the doctor on the pharmacy label. Over-the-counter medications must be authorized by the doctor on the Medication Authorization form. Students may not carry medications in their tote bags or lunch boxes at any time. Prescription medications must be sent to school with the original pharmacy label, and over-the-counter medications must be sent to school in the original unopened package. Parents may come to school to give medications to the child directly without any documentation (we will meet you outside with your child), but if your child is able to take the medicine at home with you, it is likely a better solution. If your child is taking any medications at home, please inform your child’s teacher with a message in the Brightwheel app before they arrive at school so that we will be aware of the situation and alert for any side effects that may arise. If your child has a chronic condition which requires special care or regular medications, we will work closely with you and your child’s pediatrician to develop a plan for your child’s care while he or she is at school. At no time is it acceptable for parents to mix medications with juice or other beverages in a thermos or water bottle. To protect the children, we require all beverages to be sent in their original labeled containers, and only water is allowed in water bottles.
