Snacks & Lunches
All children will need to bring an AM snack with a drink. We prefer to only serve milk, water, and 100% juice beverages. If you would prefer your child to drink water at snack time, they can use their water bottle. We ask that you try to send healthy snacks whenever possible. At snack time, your child or his or her teacher will choose a healthy item from your child's lunchbox to serve for snack. If you would prefer to designate a snack, please include a small note in your child's lunch or label the item(s) that you would like to be eaten at snack time. Each week your child's teachers will be sending out weekly updates or posting their plans to the Learning section of Brightwheel to let you know what is happening in class. Please check the updates carefully for cooking and snack projects.
Our full-day students will need to pack a lunch. We do have microwaves in all of the classrooms, so it is OK to send in items to be heated for your child's lunch. We ask that you refrain, however, from sending in items that need to be assembled and cooked from scratch--this can be very time consuming for the teachers who are also preparing lunches for other students in the group at the same time. As per licensing regulations, we will be providing lowfat organic milk to all the children at lunchtime each day. We will offer the children a choice between white, strawberry, or chocolate milk and additional refills of white milk as requested. In order to accommodate the nutritional requests of all of our families, parents may request an alternate to 1% cow's milk. In addition, our center purchases and can provide almond milk, soymilk, and lactose-free milk, and we are happy to provide these upon parent request.
Parents provide AM snacks and lunches for the children. Lunches will be kept in a refrigerator in the classroom and the temperature is monitored to ensure the safety of the children's food. We also keep extra healthy food items, including cereals and whole grain snacks, fresh fruit, cheese, yogurt, and dried fruits in our center kitchen area to supplement lunches and snacks as needed.
Please make sure your child's lunchbox is clearly labeled with his or her name (sometimes we get duplicates!). Lunchboxes are stored inside classroom refrigerators. Please make sure you have your child's lunchbox before you leave at the end of the day. Students in the aftercare classroom will be provided with a healthy snack each afternoon.
All students in our Infants and Toddlers Program will be provided with a healthy snack each afternoon after rest time.
